At RiverRock we are committed to making a favorable environmental impact on all of the properties we manage.
As part of the operational aspect of our day-to-day management role, we work closely with all of our service partners to ensure they understand our goals for developing green practices. We work with them to ensure they do their part to help us achieve this goal. At the property level, our sustainability practices include landscape, janitorial, energy management, paper management, lighting retrofit, water management and more.

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we have also expanded our in-house programs - taking them to the property level. We are introducing and conducting "Green Fairs" for our tenants as well as creating partnerships to assist them with meeting worthwhile sustainability goals within their workplace operations and facilities.

Within RiverRock and as part of our "Rock U" educational program, we are hosting "Going Green" seminars to keep our employees educated and informed on new leading-edge practices and tools. In many cases, we can assist ownership in obtaining LEED Certification for their buildings.

Our company is committed to BOMA’s 7 Point Challenge, and as members of the U.S. Green Building Council, we are in various phases of implementing Green Practices throughout our portfolio.

These practices reduce the use of natural resources, non-renewable energy sources and waste production, and work in coordination with building management, ownership and tenants to achieve the following goals:

1. Continue to work towards a goal to decrease energy consumption by 30 percent across our portfolios by 2012, as measured against an average building;

2. At least once a year, benchmark our energy performance and water usage through EPA’s ENERGY STAR benchmarking tool and share results with BOMA;

3. Provide education to our managers, engineers, and others involved in building operations, to ensure that equipment is properly installed, commissioned, maintained and utilized;

4. Perform an energy audit and/or retro-commissioning of our buildings, and implement low-risk, low-cost and cost effective strategies to improve energy efficiency with high returns;

5. Extend equipment life by improving the operations and maintenance of building systems and ensure equipment is operating as designed;

6. Through leadership, positively impact our community and our planet by helping to reduce our industry’s role in global warming; and

7. Position RiverRock and the industry as leaders and solution providers to owners and tenants seeking environmental and operational excellence.

About LEED: Administered by the U.S. Green Building Council, The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is a voluntary, consensus-based national rating system for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. The registration and certification process provides a roadmap for measuring and documenting success for every building and project type.
