RiverRock Real Estate Group has announced that Founder John Combs has been named to the board of directors of Illuminate, a San Francisco based nonprofit arts organization. Illuminate’s mission is to rally large groups of people together to create impossible works of public art that, through awe, free humanity’s better nature.
Illuminate’s flagship project is The Bay Lights by artist Leo Villareal. Originally conceived and permitted as a two-year installation, and later gifted to the People of California as a permanent installation, The Bay Lights shine nightly from the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and have become California’s most iconic work of public art. Illuminate is the catalyst and presenter of Photosynthesis on the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park, a highly popular light-based artwork inspired by the 50th Anniversary of the Summer of Love, that also shines nightly in San Francisco.
“Illuminate’s audacious visions and ability to bring impossible ideas to life personally inspire me, ” said Combs. “I’m delighted to actively participate in the effort to transform San Francisco for the better through the creation of radically accessible works of public art.”
Illuminate is pursuing multiple large-scale projects in San Francisco that inspire awe, wonder, and generosity.
“John Combs brings a wealth of experience, leadership, personal connections, business acumen, and good cheer to our board,” said Illuminate founder and CEO Ben Davis. “He’s been a game-changer wherever he’s put his focus. We could not be more excited to have him with Illuminate as we seek to transform San Francisco into the City of Awe.”
